While i was freaking out pretty hard about work when i went to bed last night, and had work-driven nightmares all night, i managed to have a pretty darned lovely weekend. Another list of good things:
--A new friend, growing ever closer. I realized this weekend how rare it is to meet someone outside of one's social circles as i get older - and what a treat it is to happen across someone new who quickly becomes such a good friend. Thank you, Mary Anne, for bringing me a Naomi. 8)
--A lovely trip to the farmers' market. A solitary prowl, and then a second one with company. Arriving reasonably early, smelling the water, gazing at the bridge, inhaling the scent of the produce, and so many people so close to the source of their food. I'm not sure i can convey the simply joy i was filled with all morning.
--Three-quarters of an hour with my Sterling and a large cup of Peet's, looking over the bay.
--Lunch with Naomi at the Tadich Grill, the oldest restaurant in SF. (Established in 1849! A proper lunch counter!)
--A long tromp downtown, with tasty bath treats from Lush.
--A new knife, and a leisurely meander around Williams-Sonoma.
--A tasty dinner, just for me. (photo op soon to be posted at Gastronome)
--A long morning cooking with Russell
--A long lunch, with my Mom-in-law, Sis-in-law, and Russell.
--A long walk, including a turn around Dolores Park, admiring the men and doggies and kids lolling about in the sun and racing about.
--Looking through a few flats & houses for sale - one which we could even afford. ;)
--Dressing up for Mo's birthday cocktail party - visiting with so many lovely friends who i haven't seen in a while.
--Knowing that Tammy graduated and we'll get to see her again soon!!
--A husband who takes very good care of me, even when i'm really difficult to deal with due to work angst & hormones.
Darn you, living so close to Naomi that you get to see her on the weekend. I too met her at that dinner party! No fair. And darn Naomi for living close enough to you and R that she gets to see you too.
Yes, I know, we could try to move to the Bay Area. But right now I think we need a little time in Oz with the folks.
But while I'm commenting can I ask what Sterling novel you're reading? I've found him a bit variable but his short stories and more recent novels have been just stellar. (I should note here that I haven't read many of his early novels, so my opinion there is under-informed.)
Posted by: Juliette on May 12, 2003 09:37 PMWe'll just have to settle for visits in the meantime! Russell and i have never been to Oz... maybe we can visit you & D in the next year. 8) A proper vacation!
I'm reading _Holy Fire_ right now, and quite enjoying it.
I'm so looking forward to your visit!

_Holy Fire_ is a good book. It was the first one of Sterling's that I read. Damien quoted little passages at me until I gave in. The joke about sunsets is still one of favourites.
Posted by: Juliette on May 13, 2003 06:18 PMOk. Beware, i'll be bothering you soon about a date during your visit where i can get you to commit to an Exploratorium visit. You and Damien and Naomi MUST visit the Tactile Dome. I will arrange, but it does take some preplanning.
Gads, i miss you already!
