Ever-so-different than the last entry, but still involving my mom, and our hands...
This weekend my parents visited, to see the house, and help with a first run at home improvements. They left this afternoon - the score tonight, as i go to bed:
--Garage door opener installed. (This was the big one.) Unfortunately, it doesn't work. We'll spend some time on the phone with the nice people from Genie, and hopefully they'll come and replace the logic board.
--Guest bathroom now has a towel rack, robe hook, and hand towel rack.
--On drawers: The bathroom and kitchen drawers now actually sit on rails, as intended. They slide, and don't fall out or anything. I need to pick up some of those little teflon bits to put on the wood so they slide a little easier, but they're a world better.
--Several windows which didn't have cat-safe screens now do. Including the kitchen window and our bedroom window - important ones. And i have the tools and screen to rescreen the ones with chewed-up screen, too.
--The printer has aquired a lovely black metal stand, in the form of two artist's paper cabinets. Helps immensely with the computer/rec room storage.
--There is now a coat rack mounted downstairs.
--Cambridge Soundworks speakers mounted and wired in the kitchen. Add iPod, whisk briskly, and voila! Music in the kitchen.
--I picked up the art i took in a few weeks ago for framing - it looks fantastic. I hung one piece in the kitchen; the other three are waiting on the highly-anticipated couches.
--I installed the candle stands in the fireplace. They fit!
--Locking mailbox, installed.
--Grill repaired. (Ok. So this took roughly 15 seconds to do. But it took me a year to remember to buy the parts, and then a week and a half to take them down to the grill.)
--Wiring of phone line to the desired placement of the DSL modem and other home network folderol is approximately 1/3 done.
--My parents, they even washed some of the windows. They're the best.
--AND everything is clean, the guest room is put back together, i made dinner for tonight & soup for my lunches this week, and Russell cleaned up the kitchen. (The roomba helped.)
Now? Now it is bedtime. With the window cracked open to let in a bit of air, and the sound of the birch trees.
