promises fufilled!

Ok, ok, so it's not precisely tomorrow. Especially since Miss Naomi is working late, and so kindly reminded me of my remission of duties, here we go.....

A bad photo of my driver's license (sorry, too lazy to drag out the scanner); my father purports that i look "trashy".

Bedraggled librarian evidence 1 | 2

A picture where i admittedly look trashy. (Am i an ad for Good Vibes or for Boont Amber, here?)

trashy

Right now, i think i look like a bedraggled librarian.

Tonight at dinner, my father said my driver's license photo looks trashy.

I'm not sure what this means, but i'll have photos for you tomorrow.

goof

For your amusement, while i work on a long post about my weekend entitled "convivial"....

Me, ready to head to the Pigface show on the 13th. Looking strangely piquant, i think.

In other news, my association with either James Oleson or The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is responsible for me being excused from jury duty. I think. (Or maybe it was this very same Isotope tee, which i was wearing on Monday when i was excused.) My coworkers seem to be happy i'm back. My parents seem less happy about the workload that's built up in the meantime. I'm just glad to not be spending another week in jury selection, and then 6 more weeks on a murder-1 trial.

treasure hunt!

I came home tonight exhausted and feeling inexplicably down - put up one of the new curtains, determined that it was decidedly too YELLOW for the greens in our living room, and said hello to the cat. Noticed the blinking light on the answerphone, and hit the appropriate button. Perky happy Suzi, asked if we were to be home this afternoon, and if she could stop by with a little surprise for us. Said she'd try, and if were weren't home maybe she'd scout around and HIDE it for it, and call back. Sure enough, the second message was Suzi, telling me which bushes i'd find a paperbag under in my yard.

Explicably, mood lifted, i rushed outside, feeling like a little kid. Found the bag, found the Canyon Blush from Ste. Chappelle, Idaho! Their website says to serve with "Baked, barbecued or fried chicken". Suzi, you so very much made my day. Thank you!

belonging

Mmmm - such a sense of belonging. After many years, Russell and i finally have monthly passes to the Mission-Bartlett garage! It makes us, like, Mission 'l33t or something.

civic duty

Such a week to be out of work, and sitting in the courthouse. I am very, very, tired. My legs are very, very, sore from pogo-ing at the Pigface show. It was worth it. Today i learned that Cafe Roma is actually a quite nice place, with lovely food, and very tolerant of girls bearing laptops who sometimes talk annoyingly on cell phones to their day job. I bet i'm still probably nicer than a lot of the law-types hanging out there... (c'mon, let me pretend i still have a shred of dignity...)

Other observations from Pigface i forgot to append on Sunday in the wee hours:

a) Damien Warman: 1 part Chris Connelly, 1 part China Mieville.
b) Sunset Gun is a great song. Still stuck in my head. So glad they played it.
c) I do dearly love the ATM messages at the DNA.

Other things that happened & that i saw this weekend:
a) 9 week old lion cubs!! early! at the Zoo on Sunday! Must. Have. Lion. Cub. Just call me Siegfried & meriko.
b) We had a pleasant half-an-hour with the lemurs before the crowds showed up. (We were allowed in pre-opening to visit aforementioned lioncubs.) They were busily warming up in one of four approved-of sun-worshipper poses. We watched a duck attack a red-ruffed lemur. The duck won.
c) The male siamang came over to say hello, and then returned to his mate, to drape his arm over her in a charming & possessive manner.
d) We saw the King of the Chimpanzees.

I really do like being at the zoo when the masses aren't there. I should take advantage of members' hours more often.

And the bed transform is nearly complete. We stopped in at a mattress store before heading to San Ramon on Sunday (yes, we were busy busy lemurbees) and ordered a mattress for the spare room bed. Now all we need to do is await delivery, and find a home for the futon & futon frame!

but they don't love me back

Early thoughts on the pigface show tonight:

1. At some point i decided not to care what the other goths & industrial kids think.

2. I feel some guilt about supporting Pigface after reading Meg's accounts. I screamed "WE MISS MEG" during the quiet bits of "Mind your own Business" loudly, and yelled something nasty at Martin that only Russell heard at the end of the show. I get it, Meg. But i can't boycott the Pigface. How else to get the live industrial in SF? (All that said? Meg, 3 girls together tonight couldn't hold a candle to you. Yes, i'm conflicted.)

3. How many miles of walking does it count to bounce straight up and down for about 3 hours? My jeans feel like i jumped in a swimming pool.

4. I'm not sure what it is about being 29, but tonight i got way deep in my first Real Pit (during Mudrer Inc, shouting at the top of my lungs. ) Touched Chris' hand (i think R is more excited than i am), and got hurt worse on the edge the pit than in it, but i certainly carry my share of the bruises from the in-the-pit action.

5. The old shit they played ROCKED. And the three chicks couldn't hold it to Leslie Rankin, either. (They did Divebomber) But a great show, really.

6. I like Seybold more and more, each time i see him. I try not to be embarrassed.

7. I didn't like Bile. Zeromancer was actually pretty decent.

8. The Isoptope girly tee garnered about 70% of the grins and kudos of the Good Vibes girly tee at a DNA industrial show. I take this as a good sign for the Isotope.

9. Did i mention that i miss Meg, and hope the new album and a tour comes soon?

bay to breakers

My number for the Bay To Breakers just arrived. So strange!
I have lived in the Bay Area since i was 5 (with a short college sojurn to Santa Cruz). My family religiously watched the event on TV, every year. We never attended, and we never participated. So now, at 29, i'm going to walk it for the first time with the fantastic bombshells. In some ways, it feels like more than a warm-up for the Avon Walk - it's a milestone of its own. (Speaking of the Avon Walk for breast cancer, would you consider sponsoring me?)

Thank you, Aimee, for inviting me to join you!

They don't hire enough Catholics...

Woah. Check this out: 'Irish coffee' injection prevents stroke damage. I knew they were one of my favorite poisons for a reason. James, when are you coming back to drink some medicine with us??

(thanks to miss heather for the link!)

bollocksed

My head is all bollocksed up tonight.

I spent much of my day at the Superior Court, seeing if i was fit for Jury Duty. I did not meet hardship criteria, so i filled out the 11 page juror questionnaire. I found myself wishing James would be home soon after me, so i could sit and talk for hours about my anti-capital punishment thoughts that were swimming around and around. For that matter, they still are. In so many ways. Ugh.

Treated myself to a late lunch, alone with my book, at Ti Couz on the way home. Soup, salad, kir breton. Cute waitress bartender. Nice 45 minutes, even though my head was swimming.

Home to unsucessfully do a lot of work. I accomplished a bit, but not enough. Again, Ugh. I did manage to make up some chicken stock out of last week's roasted carcass, with carrots from the United Nations Plaza Farmers market. Got news that Tom was in the hospital, after falling down this morning, cutting his head and hurting his neck. We'll find out tomorrow if he stays at the hospital, goes to a nursing home, or goes back to his assisted living facility.

5:30. Embarked on a brief stroll to Foriegn Cinema. Wrote on my letter to James, as i was not able to reach him by phone earlier. Smiled and talked to Colleen, the bartender, who declared me her newest regular. Responded to bartender's friend and co-worker calling "hey Miss Muffin", which garnered me benny points from Colleen and friend. Beca arrived, and we had a good evening of oysters, drinks, and apps, with a quick walk at the end with the fuzzy pupthing.

I find my head is still swimming and bollocksed, on many counts. I'll check in again soon, though. For now, water and bed and cat for me.

tubtime

Sometimes what you need after a long, hard Monday is a meal of apps at the bar of a local restaurant (with a few cocktails, natch) and then a long, hot bath with your book while your dearthing shoots at the Bad Guys online. (That's Counter-Strike, friends. Not some War-with-Iraq reference. We're still fundamentally gamers over here.)

identity crisis, II

Tonight Sher gave me a new 'do - and it's SUCH a new do. Very new for me - layers for the first time in my life, ever. It's cute - garnering lots of compliments, but i'm not sure if the identity move is what i ultimatelywant... i'm going to play with it for a few weeks, and see how they grow on me. It sure is fun to play, though! 8)

I do dearly love the swingy mandibular locks in the front, but i may have to finally acquire a hairdryer so i can make them as perfectly smooth and swingy as Sheri did. And i promise a picture, soon.
