for the public's eye

i met these two characters about a year ago, in portland, oregon. the woman, quite political and quite the artist. the man, a wwii vetran. both homeless. both humble... and not afraid to use their voice.

we bumped heads a few months before george w. bush decided to take action. the couple lived on the stoop of an old church, and were given permission to utilize the walls outside as a means of protest. very clever, indeed. i was truly amazed at how much time and effort the couple must have put into their display of distaste.

initially, i thought that merely the front of the building was covered. soon, i came to notice that the posters stretched around the entire building.... accented with dried flowers and empty wine bottles taking place of a vas. i only managed to get so many photos. to my dismay... i ran out of film.

the few photos you see are most of what i captured. the walls eventually turned into a mass media display. people all over downtown portland came to hang their views and digressions. truly inspiring.
